Old Lecture Theatre, Walton Hall, Milton Keynes
The first LEARNing event on May 1st brought together civil
servants, NGO staff and activists, all with an interest in rural affairs, in
order to explore how organisations working on rural issues can change and
learn so as to effectively manage emerging complex issues.

Purpose of the day
On the day, we aimed to provide participants with an
opportunity to:
 |
Make sense of complexity as they experience it in relation
to changes in rural areas in the UK. |
 | Build on their understanding of the current issues that face
individuals and organisations working in the rural sphere, for example CAP
reform.
|
 | Learn about effective approaches to managing complex and
fast-changing situations and discover how to use these approaches to their
benefit.
|
 |
Discuss and review their work and their role in rural
Britain with other people who are working on the same issues.
|
 | Explore and identify actions that can be taken to improve
problematic situations from their perspective.
|
 |
Draw on the experience and ideas of others from across
Europe who deal with issues that are similar to their own.
|
 |
Explore a range of possible mechanisms for managing change
in rural UK. |
